Car Crashes Into Shelton Reservoir

A woman escaped injury after driving her car into Trap Falls Reservoir Tuesday morning.

The crash happened at about 6 a.m.

The woman, whose name was not immediately available, was driving south on Huntington Street just prior to Trap Falls Road Ext. when she lost control, skidded off the road, crashed through a chain-link fence and traveled another 15 feet before landing in about two to three feet of water.

First responders were told she was avoiding a raccoon and ended up swerving,” Shelton Fire Department Chief Francis Jones said.

The woman was outside the vehicle when emergency crews arrived on the scene.

The state Department of Environmental Protection was notified, as was Aquarion Water Co.

The crash took out about 10-feet of a newly installed fence.

The dark blue Subaru Impreza had front, side and rear-end damage.

Members of Huntington Fire Co. No. 3 handled the call.

The woman’s car was pulled out of the drink by a crew from AJ’s Automotive Center at about 7 a.m.
