ANSONIA — Mayor David Cassetti signed an executive order Thursday giving residents an extra 30 days to pay the second installment of their sewer bills.

The new due date is May 1. The bill had been due April 1.

The extension is because of the COVID-19 virus, which is spreading in Connecticut.

As you know, we are facing a time of uncertainty, the likes of which we have never seen before,” Cassetti said. I want residents to know that they are not facing this challenge alone. It’s my hope this extension will help ease the financial burden of residents and businesses coping with the financial fallout of COVID-19.”

In addition, Cassetti ordered non-essential city employees to leave their departments. They’ll be working from home.

There will be limited on-site staffing in city buildings, the mayor said.

City officials stressed they are not closing city government.

Some government functions will continue to operate on-site with a limited staff on staggered schedules,” corporation counsel John Marini said. Other work will be done from home. Still other employees may be repurposed to continue serving the evolving needs of Ansonia residents.”

Make no mistake: the City of Ansonia will continue to provide the essential services that its residents depend on,” Cassetti said. We will limit social interactions while adapting and evolving to meet the challenges of this health crisis.”

The mayor further said he is available at his office at 203 736 5900, or by email at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Marini said the mayor’s office line will be active and serve as a hub to other City Hall departments.
