Center Stage Theatre Director Gary Scarpa has announced auditions for two upcoming productions: Broadway Show Stoppers,” the group’s annual Teen Musical Theatre Workshop, and Neil Simon’s Barefoot in the Park,” both on Saturday, Aug. 11 between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

High school students from any community are eligible for Broadway Show Stoppers” and should be prepared to sing a song and participate in a dance audition.

Experienced and inexperienced adults are eligible for Barefoot in the Park.” Candidates will be asked to read from the script.

Center Stage Theatre is a non-profit organization, founded in 2005 by artistic directors Gary and Francesca Scarpa.

The theatre presents a full season of five productions, using age appropriate casting.

Center Stage’s purpose is to enhance the cultural environment within its community; to present high quality theatrical productions at affordable prices; to encourage growth and education through the performing arts; and to provide a means for interested adults, teens and children to experience and participate in various aspects of live theater.

Now in its 8th year, Center Stage’s Teen Musical Theatre Workshop features talented students from area high schools. Broadway Show Stoppers” will include show stopping” songs from both classic and contemporary musicals. The production will be directed by Gina and Mia Scarpa.

Barefoot in the Park,” directed by Gary Scarpa, tells the story of Paul and Corie Bratter who are newlyweds in every sense of the word.

He’s a straight-as-an-arrow lawyer and she’s a free spirit always looking for the latest kick.

Their new apartment is her most recent find. It’s too expensive with bad plumbing and in need of a paint job.

After a six-day honeymoon, they get a surprise visit from Corie’s loopy mother and decide to play matchmaker during a dinner with their neighbor-in-the-attic Velasco, where everything that can go wrong, does.

Paul just doesn’t understand Corie, as she sees it.

He’s too staid, too boring and she just wants him to be a little more spontaneous. Running barefoot in the park” would be a start.

Barefoot in the Park” opened on Broadway in 1963 and ran for more performances on Broadway than any play ever written by Neil Simon.

Following its success on Broadway, the 1967 hit film followed starring Robert Redford and Jane Fonda.
