Center Stage Theatre has a busy spring in store as it brings its 12th season to an end.
The Shelton theatre is currently producing “Moon Over Buffalo,” which opens Friday and runs through April 30. Performances are at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and at 2 p.m. on Sundays, with a 7 p.m. show on April 27. There will be no performances on Easter weekend.
Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for students.
Ken Ludwig’s Moon Over Buffalo is a hilarious backstage farce, which will, once again, have audiences rolling in the aisles. Charlotte and George Hay, two fading stars of stage and screen, are on tour in Buffalo in 1953 with a repertory consisting of Cyrano de Bergerac and Noel Coward’s Private Lives, when they receive word that they might just have one last shot at stardom: Frank Capra is coming to town to see their matinee. Unfortunately for them, everything that might go wrong does in this hysterically funny comedy.
“Our audiences will love Moon Over Buffalo. It is a brilliantly funny play!” said Center Stage Director Gary Scarpa. Described by the New York Post as: “Hilarious! Building up its laughs methodically shtick by shtick, Ludwig stuffs this play with comic invention, running gags and a neat sense of absurdity.”
Scarpa said that following this production, Center Stage will host “Festa Italiano” on May 19 and 20 at 8 p.m. and May 21 at 2 p.m., featuring Marc Garofalo and Friends. Admission is $15.
“It will be night of great Italian music and stories, and it’s a cabaret event so people can bring their own refreshments,” said Scarpa.
Also on tap at Center Stage, in its second year, is Musical Theatre Workshop Jr., a show which will feature talented children from the region. Directed by Center Stage Education Coordinator Gina Scarpa, the production will take place on May 12 and 13 at 8 p.m. and May 14 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15. Center Stage is also currently taking registrations for its Summer Theatre Camp.
On June 7 at 7 p.m., Center Stage will also host “Family Bingo Night”, which will feature characters from recent plays calling numbers and prizes to winners.
