OXFORD — An exciting new development for the Jewish community has unfolded with the founding of Chabad Jewish Center of Oxford. This newly established organization is set to serve the towns of Oxford, Southbury, Middlebury, Beacon Falls, and Seymour, with the mission of bringing Jewish experiences to the area and creating a welcoming and vibrant community.

Led by Rabbi Shmaya and Hadassa Hecht and under the umbrella of Chabad Centers of Greater New Haven, the Chabad Jewish Center of Oxford is dedicated to fostering a welcoming environment for all ages. Embodying the values of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement, their focus lies in nurturing Jewish identity, tradition, education, and giving back to the community. By blending traditional values with modern day techniques, Chabad is able to create a diverse yet cohesive community.

We are thrilled to announce the establishment of the Chabad Jewish Center of Oxford and look forward to welcoming everyone in the community,” said Rabbi Shmaya Hecht. We hope to inspire individuals and to give people the opportunity to experience Judaism, regardless of their background, knowledge or level of observance.”

The announcement has already garnered support from the local community. Many residents in Oxford and the surrounding towns have expressed their enthusiasm for this new addition to the area’s spiritual and cultural landscape. Shira Kostika, a local Oxford resident, shared her interest and excitement. Having a center for Jewish life in the lower Naugatuck Valley, will allow the local community the opportunity to feel inclusive and socially connected to peers. I have had the privilege in my life of creating purposeful connections, surpassing stereotypes, growing my knowledge and humanity, through simple acts of kindness. I have done all of this by embracing my desire to connect with the best parts of my Jewish upbringing and heritage. So I am grateful to know that there will be a place for that mindfulness locally.”

Looking ahead, the center has hit the ground running in planning a variety of programs and activities that cater to the diverse needs of the community. From educational classes to cultural events, Shabbat and holiday celebrations and social gatherings, CJC Oxford looks forward to providing enriching experiences that will foster a strong sense of Jewish identity and belonging.

The Chabad Jewish Center of Oxford welcomes members of the community to get involved, participate in programs, and contribute to the creation of a thriving Jewish community. For further information or to be in touch, visit the center’s website at cjcoxford.org.
