Chainsaw Thefts Land Oxford Man In Jail

A man suspected of stealing chainsaws from an Oxford home was apprehended last week while attempting to flee from police on Hawkins Street in Derby.

Police arrested Jason Fraser, 26, of Bee Mountain Drive April 20 following an investigation into three chainsaws valued at $3,000 missing from a residence on Winesap Road occurring sometime the previous day.

Lead investigator, Resident State Trooper Sgt. Dan Semosky said Wednesday police conducted surveillance of Fraser throughout most of the day on April 20th.

Semosky said the investigation included collaboration with Derby and Orange Police Departments.

According to the report, officers identified Fraser on Hawkins Street sometime around 6:30 pm, at which point Fraser ran from police before being apprehended.

We received a tip on Fraser’s whereabouts and were able to chase him down,” Semosky said.

Semosky said Fraser interfered with officers and was also found to be in possession of cocaine during the arrest.

Fraser was charged with 2nd degree burglary, 3rd degree larceny and possession of narcotics, all felonies, in addition to interfering with an officer, a misdemeanor.

Fraser is currently in police custody being held on $15,000 bond and is due in Derby Superior Court to plead the charges on May 12.
