ANSONIA — The City of Ansonia announced that Ansonia High School will be used as a ‘cooling center’ today (Tuesday, July 19) for residents who need a place to cool off.
The high school is at 20 Pulaski Highway. It will be available from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. It has air conditioning.
The high temperature today is expected to reach 92 degrees while Wednesday’s high could reach 100 degrees.
Gov. Ned Lamont directed Connecticut’s extreme hot weather protocol to be activated beginning at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, and remaining in effect through 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 24, 2022.
“The purpose of the protocol is to ensure that the most vulnerable populations receive protection from the hot conditions. While enacted, a system is set up for state agencies, municipalities, and other partners to coordinate with United Way 2 – 1‑1 to make sure that information regarding cooling centers is available statewide, providing a location to get some relief from the hot conditions,” according to a statement Monday from the governor’s office.
Anyone in need of a cooling center should call 2 – 1‑1 or look online at 211ct.org to find their nearest location, according to the statement. Search ‘extreme heat cooling centers’ for info.
