Civil War Encampment In Seymour Saturday

Come experience how Civil War soldiers lived off the battlefield, and how women and other civilians helped them.

In this living history event, the 14th Connecticut Volunteer Infantry, Company F will set up camp in the yard of the Seymour Historical Society on Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The day will include military drills and weapons firing demonstrations. At noon, a cook will show how soldiers’ meals were prepared over an open fire.

Visitors will also learn about the role of Civil War nurses, the life of Corporal Joseph Pierce (the highest-ranking Union soldier of Chinese heritage) and the history of the 14th CVI, a unit that participated in 34 battles and skirmishes.

Kids can even volunteer” to drill with wooden muskets.

The Seymour Historical Society is located at 59 West St. in Seymour.

This event is free to Historical Society members and $3 per person ($5 per couple) for non-members.
