Closed Nursing Home’s Future Uncertain

The future of a shuttered nursing home in Ansonia remains uncertain, according to city officials and a representative for the property’s owner.

About 100 people lost their jobs and 84 residents had to find a new place to live after the Hilltop Health Center closed earlier this year.

The property is on Ford Street.

Neighbors are worried a future use for the property may not blend with the surrounding residential neighborhood. There are several rumors circulating about the property, none of which could be confirmed by the Valley Indy.

City officials they are waiting to see what the property owner wants to do.

As of right now there are no plans, no plans at all for it,” Mayor James Della Volpe said earlier this month.

The mayor noted the building suffered water damage a few months back after a pipe broke.

They haven’t even started doing the repairs after that major water main break they had,” Della Volpe said. They’re a long way off.”

Della Volpe said the city would prefer to see the property be used as a nursing home again.

That has been a rumor also. They were going to close down for a year and then re-open as a nursing home, but we haven’t heard anything,” Della Volpe said.

The property is owned by 126 Ford Street, a limited liability company that is connected to the THCI Company, which is based in Fort Lee, N.J. The company is in the nursing home business, running a bunch in the tri-state area.

Christopher Joyce is an attorney representing 126 Ford Street, LLC.

At this juncture, no decision has been made about the ultimate disposition of the property and 126 Ford Street LLC continues to consider all of the available options,” Joyce said in an e‑mail Aug. 12.
