Current or former Connecticut Post journalists who play and write music as a hobby will showcase their talents at a church in Bridgeport Saturday night to benefit poor children in the city.
Ken Dixon and Lys Guillorn, a husband and wife musical duo from Shelton known as the Valley Kats, will perform at the event, which starts at 7 p.m. at Golden Hill United Methodist Church on Golden Hill Street. Dixon is the state capitol bureau chief for the Post.
Tony Spinelli of Seymour, a former Connecticut Post veteran who now writes for the Valley Indy, will perform in the event on bass and lead guitar backing up Dave Gregorio of Milford, as well as The Neediest, an alternative rock band in which Gregorio is the lead singer. Gregorio is a former Post reporter who is now an editor with Reuters.
Pat Quinn of Stratford, arts editor of the Post, will perform an acoustic set with Gregorio, who is the headliner of the night’s show, which is a CD release party for his new independent album.
Father and son Tony Silber and Matt Silber of Trumbull will perform on drums and guitar, respectively, in The Neediest. Tony Silber is a former Post reporter who now heads a magazine.
Admission to the concert is a donation of non-perishable food suitable for a backpack. Gregorio will also sell copies of his independent CD and donate the proceeds to the church ministry of feeding the poor children in the city on the weekends.
The benefit concert will be emceed by disc jockey Ebong Udama of WPKN FM in Bridgeport.
