Connecticut’s Daily COVID-19 Positivity Rate Reaches Three Percent

The COVID-19 daily positivity rate reached 3 percent Tuesday, an uptick compared to over the summer, when the daily positivity rate hovered just under 1 percent.

According to data released from the state, there were an additional 434 positive cases out of 14,653 tests. An additional five deaths were reported Tuesday, bringing the total COVID-19 associated deaths in Connecticut to 4,559 since March.

As of 7 p.m. Tuesday, 217 people were in hospitals in Connecticut because of COVID-19, an increase of 22 patients since Monday.

Connecticut’s daily positivity rate is still lower than other parts of the U.S., such as the midwest, where the weekly rates are between 10 and 20 percent.

From The Hartford Courant:

Connecticut’s positivity rate is still low in comparison to some hotspot states. For instance, South Dakota in recent days has averaged a 37% positivity rate and Idaho has averaged a nearly 29% positivity rate, according to the Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center.

While Connecticut’s positivity may fare well when compared to other states with high numbers of positive tests, however, the rate is still trending upward.

Connecticut’s 7‑day rolling average positivity rate was 1.85 percent as of Oct 19. Nevada was just about 46 percent, according to data posted by the State of New York.
