Constitution Week Proclaimed In Derby

Mayor Rich Dziekan presents the Constitution Week Proclamation to SRH-MS Chapter Regent Jeaneen Buchanan.

Derby Mayor Richard Dziekan proclaimed September 17 – 23 Constitution Week. When presenting the Proclamation to Sarah Riggs Humphreys-Mary Silliman (SRH-MS) Chapter Regent Jeaneen Buchanan, the Mayor noted that Sept. 17, 2022, marks the 235th anniversary of the drafting of the Constitution by the Constitutional Convention.

Mayor Dziekan noted it is fitting and proper to officially recognize this magnificent document and the anniversary of its creation and to recognize the patriotic celebrations which will commemorate the occasion. He said that Public Law 915 guarantees the issuing of a proclamation each year by the President of the United States of America designating September 17 — September 23, 2022, as Constitution Week.

Regent Buchanan thanked Mayor Dziekan on behalf of the members of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She mentioned the tradition of celebrating Constitution Week was begun by the DAR in 1955. She said This is the 67th anniversary of Constitution Week, with the first proclamation issued by President Eisenhower on August 19, 1955. The Constitution is a living document that assures each citizen of the freedoms Americans cherish and appreciate.”

Regent Buchanan added As Daughters, it is our responsibility to celebrate and keep our ancestors’ legacy alive! The United States Constitution stands as a testament to the tenacity of Americans throughout history to maintain their liberties, freedoms, and inalienable rights”.

The DAR perpetuates the memory and spirit of the men and women who won American independence. The DAR is a women’s service organization dedicated to historic preservation, education and patriotism. Any woman over 18 who can prove an ancestor served in the American Revolution is a prospective member. For more information on the DAR visit sarahriggshumphreysDAR.org.
