Construction Trailer Burns In Derby

An vacant office trailer behind the Derby train station burned Thursday evening, causing significant rush hour delays along Route 34.

No injuries were reported.

The fire was first reported as a brush fire. Responding firefighters were greeted by a burning office trailer, the kind used as temporary offices during construction jobs.

Getting to the trailer wasn’t simple. It was in a semi-wooded area between the rear of the Derby train station and the city’s river walk, a few hundred feet off Route 34.

The closest fire hydrant was in front of the Catholic War Veterans Post 1562 on Derby Avenue.

There was an initial report of a victim inside (the structure). That turned out to be negative,” said Assistant Fire Chief Mike Goodman of Paugassett Hook and Ladder.

Firefighters from Shelton were called in for assistance, as per protocol.

The fire was reported at 6:13 p.m. It was under control within 30 minutes.

The fire marshal’s office is investigating.
