
VALLEY – Connecticut’s first heat wave of the summer is here, and it’s important as ever to keep cool.
The Valley Indy reached out to city officials in Ansonia, Oxford, Derby, Seymour, and Shelton, and received the following list of cooling centers. These spaces are open to the public and have air conditioning.
With temperatures expected to exceed 100°F across much of the Valley, stop by these spots to cool off a bit.
Ansonia
The Ansonia Senior Center at 65 Main St. (second floor) is open from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
The Ansonia Rescue Medical Services (ARMS) building at 22 W. Main St. will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Wednesday.
Derby
Derby Neck Library (307 Hawthorne Ave.) is open from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
Derby Public Library (313 Elizabeth St.) is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. Click here for a full list of hours.
The Derby Senior Center (293 Main St.) is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Oxford

Seymour
Seymour Town Hall (1 First St.) is open from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., as well as from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Seymour Community Center (20 Pine St.) is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Seymour Public Library (46 Church St.) is closed Mondays. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, it is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Click here for their full hours.

The Shelton Community Center (41 Church St.) is open from 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Shelton City Hall (54 Hill St.) is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Plumb Memorial Library (65 Wooster St.) is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Wednesday. It’s open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. Click here for their full hours.
