Court Appearance For Ex-Alderman

A Superior Court Judge Thursday modified a protective order filed against former Alderman Keith J. Maynard, who is charged with assaulting a woman he married four days later.

Police charged Maynard Aug. 20 for the July attack on Ida Marie Lucarelli.

He is charged with second-degree assault, first-degree unlawful restraint, both felonies, and first-degree reckless endangerment, a misdemeanor. Maynard has plead not guilty.

Lucarelli reported coming home to her residence in July, only to have a person throw a blanket on her and hit her with a baseball bat.

Police initially investigated it as a robbery, but eventually developed Maynard, who lived with Lucarelli, as a suspect.

On Thursday, Derby Superior Court Judge Barbara Bellis gave Maynard permission to perform work on a property that would put him near Lucarelli.

The judge reminded him to have no contact with Lucarelli.

Maynard was previously reprimanded by the court for attempting to contact her after his arrest.

This means you are not to enter the dwelling and have no contact with her whatsoever,” the judge said.

Maynard, who remains free on $50,000 bail, sat on the Board of Alderman for almost a decade and was a member of several other boards and commissions.

He resigned from the Board of Aldermen shortly after his arrest.

Maynard is due back in Derby Superior Court on Jan. 7.
