The Derby woman accused of mugging a 91-year-old woman and committing a string of daytime home burglaries in the Valley and Fairfield could be facing jail time.
That’s according to her attorney, Joseph Jaumann, who spoke during a brief court hearing on Amber Belade’s behalf Wednesday at Superior Court in Derby.
Prosecutor John Kerwin asked Jaumann if there was a proposed plea agreement for the Derby charges.
“There’s been discussions,” Jaumann said. “There’s going to be a period of incarceration, but there’s been no specific offer.”
Belade’s case was continued to Nov. 4 after the hearing. Belade is incarcerated, and did not appear during the hearing.
Belade has other burglary cases pending in Bridgeport court, Jaumann said, and he needs more time to work on those cases.
Belade is accused of committing a string of daytime burglaries in Shelton and Derby in April and May with her boyfriend Collin McCarthy. Fairfield police also arrested her for burglary and larceny charges.
She faces several larceny and burglary charges for those incidents.
For the mugging, Belade was charged with second-degree larceny, second-degree burglary, and second-degree assault.
Police said on May 3, Belade ran up to an elderly woman walking along Chatfield Street and grabbed her purse, police said. The woman was knocked to the ground in the process.
Belade got away with about $3 in cash, and later threw the purse by the Route 8 on-ramp at Emmett Avenue in Derby, she told police.
The 91-year-old woman had more than $40 missing after the attack, her family said.
The woman suffered cuts and several strained muscles and could not walk without a cane for more than a month, her family said.
The 91-year-old woman is still recovering from the attack.
McCarthy, her boyfriend, was also arrested for burglary and larceny charges. McCarthy is due in court on Oct. 14.
