COVID Cancels Porketta Christmas Dinner Fundraiser

DERBY — The Paugassett Hook & Ladder Company No. 4 announced the cancellation of a fundraiser Tuesday due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Derby Avenue fire company (part of the Derby Fire Department) had been selling porketta dinners as a holiday fundraiser for $25 each. The dinners were being prepared at the firehouse. Customers were to pick up the orders without having contact with the Paugie volunteers.

Dinner pickups were supposed to happen Tuesday and Wednesday (Dec. 22 and Dec. 23).

However, like so much else this year, the event was canceled due to COVID.

We regret to inform everyone but the sale for the holiday porchettas cannot take place,” according to a Paugies post on Facebook. A member who helped in the prepping process has tested positive for the virus. Even though all precautionary measures were taken we feel it is too great of a risk to serve the public. We are very sorry for the inconvenience.”

Anyone who ordered a meal and wanted a refund was asked to call the fire house Tuesday between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. at 203 736 1476. The Paugies may also be reached through email, [email protected].

The cancelation of the meals is especially tough, as it was meant to replace other fundraisers the Paugies canceled due to the pandemic.

Again, we are sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your support,” the post concluded.
