Ansonia police arrested three people from New York Friday in an alleged credit-card fraud scheme.
Police said the three men were using stolen or fraudulent credit cards to purchase Playstations and iPods at the Ansonia Target.
A security officer at the store noticed the men using cards with several different names to purchase iPods and Playstation 3 consoles, according to Ansonia Police Department spokesman, Lt. Wayne Williams
Williams said the department is still investigating the incident. It is not yet clear if the credit cards were stolen from real people, or fraudulently obtained from the credit card companies.
“During the investigation, we recovered 17 credit cards that did not belong to these suspects,” Williams said. “Additionally, we recovered seven Playstation 3 video game systems and 5 iPod Touch media players. Some of these items were purchased in the Ansonia Target store while others were purchased at other stores.”
Williams said it wasn’t clear if the men were selling the items after buying them with the credit cards.
Police filed the following charges:
- Neal Ramone Dixon, 23, of 720 Lenox Avenue in New York — fifth-degree larceny, illegal use of a credit card and receipt of money, goods or services obtained by illegal use of a credit card.
- Andre D. Stancil, 25, of 653 Lennox Ave. in Avon, New York — fifth-degree larceny and illegal use of a credit card.
- Andrew Toliver, 23, of 201 Clinton Avenue in New York — fifth degree larceny
Each was released on a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear at Superior Court in Derby on June 28.
Williams said the investigation is ongoing and the department may seek additional arrests.
