Assuming they get the necessary insurance paperwork, the CT Roller Girls will be holding a 5K race along the Derby Greenway June 10.
A rain date is scheduled for June 17.
Members of the Derby Board of Aldermen granted approval for the 5K race at their Jan. 26 meeting.
CT Roller Girls, launched in 2006, is a female roller derby league. Players don super-clever names such as Parker Poison, Murphys Outlaw and Girl Fawkes.

The CT Roller Girls have received a ton of press since launching, and they qualified as a non-profit organization in 2009. Many of the players are from the Naugatuck Valley.
Note — the race on June 10 will NOT be on roller skates, nor will there be any roller derby rough stuff.
“Oh, come on! I was ready,” joked Derby Mayor Anthony Staffieri.
“Not everyone can roller skate, but they can run,” said Alessandra DeBenedetti, a CT Roller Girl who represented her fellow roller derby girls at the Aldermen meeting.
The idea for the race, as of Jan. 26, was only a week old, she told the Aldermen, so they weren’t ready to estimate how many people may participate.
The race would start at the Derby-Shelton bridge, then continue along the Greenway to BJ’s before looping around and ending at O’Sullivan’s Island.
The CT Roller Girls have a bunch of sponsors. Some of the vendors will be at the race, giving away freebies to the participants.
