ANSONIA — Updated 9 a.m. Saturday, May 2.
The Cumberland Farms on Pershing Drive closed Friday after an employee tested positive for the COVID-19 virus, a spokesperson for the company said.
The store is at 5 Pershing Drive.
“We are taking all appropriate steps following guidance from local health officials. We closed the store at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, May 1 to be cleaned and sanitized by an industrial cleaning crew. The store will re-open in the next few days. We are grateful to all our customers for their patience and understanding during this time,” Cumberland Farms said in a prepared statement.
“All Team Members who work at the store have been contacted and advised to follow CDC-recommended guidelines. We are making every effort to provide the affected Team Member and our broader team with the necessary resources and support,” the statement concluded.
The information was distributed Friday evening by a public relations firm acting on the company’s behalf.
“The city’s thoughts are with the employee and fellow employees,” Ansonia Corporation Counsel John Marini said in a statement to The Valley Indy. “Again, this underscores the importance of not letting our guard down when leaving the home.”
The Valley Indy reached out Friday night to the company and the Naugatuck Valley Health District for additional information.
