Dan Waleski Gives Derby A Second Norman Rockwell Painting

Derby City Hall has a second copy of a Norman Rockwell painting to display thanks to a donation from resident Daniel Waleski.

Waleski, 88, read about Joe Moore giving the city a copy of Rockwell’s Marriage License” painting to the city clerk’s office to honor the memory of his wife, former town clerk Barbara Moore.

A city can’t have enough Norman Rockwell paintings, so Waleski donated his copy of the painting, which will be displayed in the tax collector/town clerk office on Derby City Hall’s first floor.

It’s my wish, on behalf of the city, the Board of Aldermen will accept this gift of a fine copy of this popular painting, so fittingly for our town clerk’s office,” Waleski told the Aldermen at a meeting July 25.

Alderman Ron Sill noted the town clerk in the painting looked a lot like Waleski. Mayor Anthony Staffieri agreed.

Waleski, a constant presence at Derby government meetings, was the named the city’s citizen of the year in 2011.

Alderman Bev Moran made the motion to accept Waleski’s painting. The vote was unanimous.
