Dangerous Week On Oxford Roads

Separate crashes on Route 188 and Route 67 sent three people to area hospitals this week.

The first accident happened at about noon Tuesday (Aug. 24), when a 1997 Honda Civic driven by Megan Murphy, 19, of Holden, Mass., turned onto Route 188 from Silano Road, according to a police report.

Murphy’s Honda struck a 2007 Ford van driven by Fray Quezada Guaman, 30, of Washington.

Murphy’s car rotated clockwise and careened off the roadway on the northbound side of Route 188.

Murphy was trapped in the Honda and had to be cut out by firefighters using the jaws of life.”

She was then taken to Waterbury Hospital for facial injuries.

Guaman complained of leg and arm injuries. He was taken to Griffin Hospital for treatment.

Both vehicles sustained extensive damage and were towed from the scene.

Police determined Murphy was at fault for not obeying a stop sign.

The second accident happened Wednesday (Aug. 25) at 7:30 am at the intersection of Chestnut Tree Hill and Route 67.

According to a police report, a 1998 Pontiac Sunfire driven by Richard Zanesky, 50, of Sheldon Road, pulled out of Route 67 from Chestnut Tree Hill and collided with a Harley Davidson motorcycle being driven by Elaine Sanangelo, 45, of Oxford.

Sanangelo was thrown from the motorcycle and sustained leg and foot injuries. She was taken by Oxford Ambulance to Yale New Haven Hospital for treatment.

Police determined Zanesky was at fault for failing to yield the right of way.
