The Sarah Riggs Humphreys-Mary Silliman Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) presented prestigious Good Citizen Awards to two area High School seniors.
Brianna Feola, Derby High School, and Alexandria Gumbs, Shelton High School, received Certificates and DAR Good Citizen pins.
The DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest was created in 1934 and is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship.
This award recognizes and rewards individuals who possess the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism in their homes, schools, and communities. Recipients are selected by their teachers and peers because they demonstrate these qualities to an outstanding degree.
Derby resident Karin Robbins and Shelton resident Betsy Grant, Committee members, mentioned they are always so impressed by the achievements and accolades of our students and this year is no exception. They wished the students well in their future school and community endeavors.
The DAR perpetuates the memory and spirit of the men and women who won American independence. The DAR is a women’s volunteer service organization that promotes education, historic preservation, and patriotism.
Any woman over 18 who can prove an ancestor served in the American Revolution is a prospective member.
