A wrong-way driver killed a Waterbury man on Route 8 north in Seymour early Friday, police said.
Belarmino Santos, 37, was driving north on Route 8 at about 3 a.m., when a car driven by Zakei Barnes hit Santos’ car head-on, police said.
Santos was killed in the crash.
Barnes was driving the wrong way on the highway, according to a police accident summary released Friday morning. Both men were driving in the left lane, between exits 22 and 23.
Barnes, 34, also of Waterbury, was taken to Waterbury Hospital with “non-life threatening injuries” police said.
State police are investigating the crash, and ask anyone with information to contact them at (203) 393‑4200.
The crash closed the northbound lanes of Route 8 for several hours Friday morning. As of about 7:30 a.m., the road was opened again.
