Saturday’s Ansonia-Derby softball game raised just about $2,000 for Griffin Hospital’s Hewitt Center for Breast Wellness.
“We have a great turnout. It was great to see,” said Derby softball coach Joe DiMartino.
DiMartino and his assistant coaches started the annual fundraiser last year after his wife, Lori, was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Lori threw out the first pitch Saturday, which was played in front of a capacity crowd in Derby.
Derby lost the game, 8 – 0, but the money for the cancer center exceeded their $1,300 total last year.
DiMartino said representatives of the softball team will be presenting a check to Griffin Hospital officials within the next two weeks.
