Shelton police are alerting motorists of a parking ban and road closures in connection with the Derby-Shelton Memorial Day Parade Monday (May 26).
The parking ban along the parade route goes into effect at 6 a.m. in Shelton and will stay in effect until the parade is over, Police Chief Joel Hurliman said Tuesday.
The parade will step off about 9 a.m. on Howe Avenue in Shelton, and will proceed to Kneen Street, Coram Avenue, White Street, Howe Avenue, and then over the Derby-Shelton Bridge, where the route will follow Main Street, then Elizabeth Street, before ending at Cottage Street.
Beginning Wednesday cops will put “courtesy notices” on cars along the parade route notifying owners they’ll need to be out of the way Monday, Hurliman said.
“Our goal is not to tow anybody,” he said.
In Derby, parking will be prohibited on Bridge Street, Main Street from Olivia Street to Elizabeth Street, and Elizabeth Street from Main Street to Seymour Avenue.

Hurliman said the parade will feature the Stratford-based 192nd Engineer Battalion of the Army National Guard, several police and fire departments, and a multitude of school bands and other groups.
A full line-up is posted below.
Hurliman said parade committee members will judge the marching units in four categories: police departments, fire departments, drum and bugle corps, and school bands.
The night before the parade, an annual memorial service will take place at Derby High School honoring veterans from Derby and Shelton who have died since last Memorial Day.
Doors open for the ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Sunday (May 25) at the high school, 10 Nutmeg Ave. in Derby. The ceremony will begin at 7:30 p.m. sharp, Hurliman said.
