DERBY — The Derby Board of Education and Superintendent Dr. Conway have been recognized by the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education (CABE) for exhibiting the most effective leadership, characterized by their ability to work together as a “team.”
The CABE Board Recognition Awards are designed to recognize boards which provide effective leadership to their districts through the use of good practices. This program
acknowledges the importance of school board members and superintendents working together as effective teams and continues an important trend among school boards associations across the country.
CABE Board Leadership Award assesses 21 items in areas of Leadership/Student Achievement, Board Member Professional Development, Policy, Community Relations and Organizational Leadership, and boards need to fulfill at least 15 of these items to qualify.
Conway stated, “This is the tenth year in a row that the Derby Board of Education has been recognized, and the eighth time they are receiving the top award. The recognition
speaks to the Board’s level of commitment and drive to achieve even higher goals and results. Year over year they demonstrate an extremely high level of commitment to our
staff, our kids and this family. This year was a year like no other as they guided us through the pandemic, successfully; we are truly fortunate for their incredible support.”
Board Chairman, Jim Gildea stated, “The Board of Education is excited to once again learn that we have been honored by CABE as a Board of Distinction. It is an honor to serve with a group of hard working and dedicated public servants whose only goal is to support the school system in ensuring that we provide our children the best education
possible. In all the countless hours spent volunteering over the course of weeks, months and years, we have always come together as a unit to work in harmony in ensuring that
we put the students of the Derby school system first in all cases.”
The award was scheduled to be presented to the Board and Superintendent Conway at the CABE/CAPSS Annual Convention on November 12, 2021.
