DERBY – Sue Sherman, the Children’s Librarian of the Derby Public Library, was honored with the 2022 Faith Hektoen Lifetime Achievement Award at the annual Connecticut Library Association conference in May.
The Faith Hektoen Award, named for a beloved and innovative Children’s Librarian, is the highest award a Connecticut Children’s Librarian can receive.
It was awarded to Sue Sherman for her outstanding contribution to the field of librarianship and her longtime work helping children and families utilize the services and resources of the library through programming, collection development and a true commitment to serving the public.
Sue was nominated for the award by Derby Public Library Director, Scott Brill.
While only serving as Library Director since December, Scott stated that he “has witnessed firsthand Sue’s good work here at the Derby Public Library, which also prompted universal glowing and enthusiastic praise from her colleagues, past and present.”
In a library career that has spanned over 25 years, Sue Sherman has helped to improve and enhance the lives of children, members of the community, as well as her colleagues, by the dedication, devotion, and delight that she brings to her work as a caring and creative Children’s Librarian.
