Derby Elks Hold Annual Flag Day Ceremony


The Derby Elks Lodge #571 held its annual Flag Day ceremony on the Birmingham Green Sunday (June 12).

Those in attendance included members of the Catholic War Veterans (CWV) Post 1562, Sutter-Terlizzi American Legion Post 16, members of Derby Scouting program, Derby’s Police Department, Mayors from Derby, Ansonia and Shelton as well as State Rep. Linda Gentile.

Steve Stockmal of MegaWatt Entertainment provided patriotic background music. The Elks organization has sponsored the annual Flag Day event for over 100 years.

Taps was played to honor the dead” during the annual ceremony and Exalted Ruler Jerome Coolidge of the Derby Elks Lodge #571 lead the crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag as members of the Derby Scouting program were on hand as standard bearers. 

Refreshments were served to the public following the ceremony at the Derby Elks Lodge on Elizabeth Street.
