Derby’s Brian Mezzapelle, 23, is many things.
Emergency medical technician, volunteer firefighter, photographer and little league baseball coach, to name a few.
He’s also a guy who could use your help right about now.
Mezzapelle was in a serious car wreck Friday night.
His friend and fellow emergency responder Ryan Hunt set up a Go Fund Me page to help defray Mezzapelle’s medical costs Nov. 9.
Just 14 hours into the campaign, about 70 people donated about $3,000. The goal is $10,000.
According to an accident summary from state police, Mezzapelle was driving his 2003 Ford Explorer north on Route 8 near exit 19 in Ansonia when he lost control, struck the jersey barrier in the middle of the road, veered across the northbound lanes and then collided with the wire guardrail.
He was ticketed for failing to stay in the proper lane, according to police.
The Go Fund Me page states Mezzapelle suffered significant facial trauma from the wreck, and that he underwent surgery at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
“Let’s show Brian how we take care of our own, and come together for each other. Imagine the burden lifted with not having to worry about how you will pay your bills as you recover,” the page states.
Mezzapelle is a constant presence and Derby Little League.
“Please consider helping one of Derby’s greatest assets as he recovers,” the league announced on its Facebook page.
