Last month sixteen Derby fire department members took part in a “rapid intervention” training class.
Rapid intervention is the term used to remove a trapped or downed firefighter inside a burning building.
Typically a Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) is called to a structure fire to standby in case a firefighter gets into trouble.
Derby FD calls either Shelton or Ansonia for this function, depending on the part of town the fire is in. Derby always responds to Ansonia for fires there.
The course was given by Fire Training Innovations. Instructors were from Bridgeport and New York City.
The class was held at a vacant house on Route 67 in Oxford.
The classroom part of the course was previously held in Derby.
