Derby Fire Department Has New Leader

Derby FD FacebookCongratulations to Derby Fire Department Chief Mike Goodman, who was sworn-in during a ceremony Jan. 2 at the Hotchkiss Hose fire house on David Humphreys Road.

The department also honored the memory of former Chief James J. Butler, who passed away in February at the age of 50. Butler’s father, James R. Butler, received a medal of honor on behalf of his son, according to a story in the Connecticut Post.

Chief Goodman replaces Chief Kurt Kemmesies.

According to the Derby Fire Department’s Facebook page, Bob Laskowski was promoted to first assistant chief, Dave Lenart was promoted to second assistant chief and Mike Gloade was sworn in as third assistant chief.

Father Christopher Tiano was sworn as the first department-wide chaplain.
