Members of the Derby Fire Department will be going bald tonight (Thursday, Feb. 16) in an effort to raise $40,000 to help children with cancer.
Firefighters will be shaving their heads and taking donations to benefit the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a charity that has raised some $118 million for cancer research.
Tonight’s massive head shave will happen at 7 p.m. at Derby Elks Lodge #571 at 73 Elizabeth Street in Derby.
This is the second year in a row firefighters have raised money for St. Baldrick’s.
Last year’s event raised more than $8,000.

Donations can also be made in person at the event.
Last year’s even was a raucous good time, with firefighters, friends and families ribbing each other over who could raise the most money.
According to the Derby Fire Department St. Baldrick’s page, a person listed as “Garet B.” has raised the most money so far — $2,630.
The “Team Hotchkiss” group has raised $7,359 so far.
