Derby Fire Marshal Resigns

Marcarelli

DERBY – The city’s fire marshal has resigned less than two months after being charged with driving under the influence.

David Marcarelli submitted a letter of resignation to Mayor Joseph DiMartino Jan. 30, with his resignation effective the same day.

Thank you for all of the support and opportunities you have provided me over the past two years. I have truly enjoyed my time working at the City of Derby and am grateful for having the role of Fire Marshal,” Marcarelli wrote.

He also noted that he would be willing to help transition to a new fire marshal.

Marcarelli has a single count of driving under the influence pending in Superior Court in Meriden. He was charged after crashing his city-issued vehicle Dec. 23, 2024 in North Haven, according to a report released by North Haven police. He is next due in court Feb. 11.

Marcarelli was hired as Derby’s fire marshal in November 2022. Prior to that he was with the North Haven Fire Department for 30 years. He was paid $84,049.68 annually as Derby fire marshal.

The Derby Board of Aldermen and Alderwomen met in executive session for an hour Jan. 29 to discuss Marcarelli and his position.

They took no formal action, such as a vote, but the fire marshal resigned the next day.

The mayor said he accepted Dave’s resignation and wishes him the best,” according to an email from Linda Fusco, Mayor Joseph DiMartino’s chief of staff.
