On Tuesday, Dec. 7, 50 first graders from the three elementary schools in Derby – St. Mary/St. Michael, Irving, and Bradley – came together at the Derby Public Library for a night of Gingerbread-themed stories and crafts, and of course, meeting Santa Claus.
The event is one of about a handful of First Grade Nights at the Derby Public Library. At First Grade Nights, students from Irving, Bradley and St. Mary/St. Michael schools listen to stories and conduct crafts together.
The events are held to introduce the students to the library system, and bring members of the Derby community together.
The event was organized by Jenny Ames and Melissa Melillo, teachers at Irving School, and Sue Sherman, Children’s Librarian at the Derby Public Library.
