A Derby High School girls soccer player was charged with second-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace for allegedly punching a Torrington player during a game in September, The Republican-American of Waterbury reported.

The Derby player’s name was not released because she is a juvenile. Police obtained an arrest warrant, according to the newspaper.
According to a column posted Sept. 26 on Litchfield County Sports, a Derby player grabbed the hair of a Torrington player and began punching her after the player collided with another Derby player.
In October, Torrington declined to play Derby in a rematch. Torrington’s coach criticized Derby school leaders for the handling of the situation, according to this story.
School officials and students later held a “restorative conference” in connection to the incident.
