DERBY — Please join the Derby Historical Society at their Annual Meeting and Luncheon on April 16, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Payden Field House in Derby as they conduct their annual meeting and give their 3 core volunteer based awards. The luncheon will consist of chicken, ziti, salad, bread, beverage, coffee and dessert. While ticket prices are $40, anyone who makes a $50 donation will also receive a free ticket.
The event is being sponsored by the Quail & Ale Neighborhood Pub located on 328 Derby Avenue, Derby CT. They are located just minutes from the David Humphreys House and have been a loyal friend to the Society.
The Derby Historical Society is so appreciative for all those who volunteer and play a role in helping us fulfill our mission of preserving local Valley history. In that regard, the Society will present the following 3 awards:
- Dorothy Larson Award — For his or her many contributions to the community which in the spirit of the award’s namesake coincides with the mission of the Derby Historical Society, which is to preserve, protect, and honor our cultural and traditional values. This will be awarded to Jack Walsh.
- David Humphreys Service Award — Awarded to members in recognition of his or her many years of service in contributing time, talent, and resources in helping fulfill the mission of the Derby Historical Society. This will be awarded to Elaine Brandon.
- Dr. John I. Howe Award — Awarded to a businessman or woman, individual, group, firm, corporation, or industry whose presence has consistently benefited one or more communities in the Valley region in the spirit of its namesake. This benefit is either through activism, perseverance, and/or philanthropy to the extent that the Derby Historical Society recognizes that they will be remembered in an historical context by future generations. This will be awarded to the Valley Community Foundation.
The Derby Historical Society is a proud nonprofit volunteer-driven organization charged with preserving and teaching local history. The popular“A Day in 1762” program has, since 1980, instilled a curiosity for our past in countless elementary school children. The Annual Appeal is the organization’s most important fundraiser that helps sustain its objectives and programs in both normal times and during devastating shutdowns as dictated by the recent COVID-19 pandemic.
This is the Society’s major fundraiser and we count on this to help sustain us throughout the year. We hope that we can count on your attendance at the Annual Meeting and Luncheon. Please contact us at (203) 7351908 or visit our website, www.derbyhistorical.org, to register for the event or to make a tax-deductible donation to the Derby Historical Society. We are grateful for the continued support and generosity of the public.
