DERBY — On Sunday, April 11 the Derby High School Baseball team hosted a free clinic open to all Derby Little League players.
New head coach Robert Swierbitowicz lead the two sessions of wide-eyed young ball players at the new Payden Park located at the Leo F. Ryan Athletic Complex in Derby along with assistant coaches Sal Frosceno Jr. and Steve Reilly.
They had the opportunity to work with the 19 leaguers and their parents on basic skills that they can work on now to help with their mechanics and muscle memory for their upcoming season.
They went through a series of hitting, sliding, base running and defensive drills. The participants were able to take some swings off of the pitching machine and received instruction from the high school athletes at each drill station.
This is an event that they are planning to do each year to give back to the program that most of our high school athletes played in when they were the age of the participants at the clinic.
