DERBY — A special meeting of the Derby Board of Aldermen & Alderwomen has been scheduled for tonight (Thursday, Feb. 17) to consider approving a job description and forming a search committee for an economic development director in city hall. UPDATE: Meeting didn’t happen.
Derby has not had a full-time economic development director since 2013. At the time, the position was combined with grant writer — an important position in an economically-distressed community such as Derby, where searching for and applying for grants is an essential function.
The quest to write a job description and form a search committee has been kicking around for a few months, with members of the board disagreeing with the mayor’s office over procedure.
On Feb. 10, the Aldermen/Alderwomen voted to table the discussion of the search committee and to send the job description to an Aldermanic subcommittee.
The meeting this evening is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Zoom, the video-conferencing platform. The meeting ID is 891 5562 0034.
A draft job description states the proposed salary is $81,592, depending on the candidate’s level of experience.
According to the agenda for tonight’s meeting, the people to be considered for the candidate search committee include:
* Carmen DiCenso, a registered Democrat who currently works in Mayor Rich Dziekan’s administration as part-time economic development liaison
* Ted Estwan, a registered Republican who is currently the chairman of the Derby Planning and Zoning Commission
* Anita Dugatto, a Democrat on the Board of Aldermen/Alderwomen
* Gino DiGiovanni, a Republican on both the Board of Aldermen/Alderwomen and the Derby Planning and Zoning Commission
* Jeff Luff, Oxford’s economic development director
* Pat McKinney, Wolcott’s economic development director
* Ed St. John, Middlebury’s First Selectman (a Republican)
