Derby Man Accused In Steroid Ring

A Derby man is accused of running a steroid ring with a partner in crime from Trumbull, according to information released Friday morning by Fairfield police.

Jerry Mazzuoccolo, of Derby, is charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, possession of a controlled substance and operating a drug factory.

Cops raided his Hawthorne Avenue residence Wednesday, (Aug. 6) according to police. At same time, police raided Chris Puzzio’s residence on Algonquin Trail in Trumbull and picked up a third suspect, Sean Jackson, of Bridgeport, as he drove into Fairfield County from New York.

Police said they recovered large amounts of steroids, human growth hormone, drug paraphernalia, cash, capsule presses and a bunch of guns as a result of the search and seizure warrants.

Jackson is suspected of being the connection between a supplier in New York and the Connecticut drug dealers.

Investigators watched as Jackson proceeded to meet his supplier at a pre-arranged spot where Westchester County police and Federal agents were staged. Subsequent to the deal of oxycodone pills Sean Jackson and his supplier were both arrested on narcotics charges in New York,” police said in a statement.

More arrests are possible.

Fairfield cops began investigating the distribution of pain meds in April, according to a statement from police.

That probe turned cops onto an illegal manufacturing and distribution network of narcotics, steroids and human growth hormone, police allege.

Detectives discovered structured sums of money were being wired overseas in exchange for raw materials that form the base compound for anabolic steroids,” according to a police statement. That material, slightly compounded and heated is then bottled in liquid form or encapsulated in powdered form for injectable and oral consumption.”

Fairfield police worked with several other law enforcement agencies, ranging from Westchester County police in New York to the federal Drug Enforcement Administration, to make the busts.

Mazzuoccolo is due at Superioir Court Aug. 19.
