A 21-year-old man suspected of breaking into homes in Derby was arrested on a warrant July 3.
Love Millet, of Derby, is accused of breaking into residences on Cherry Street and Fifth Street, according to Derby Police Lt. Justin Stanko.
Millet’s arrest comes after a spike of burglaries in Derby. Break-ins in the area of Hawthorne Avenue prompted the creation of a neighborhood watch.
Stanko said police are investigating whether Millet is connected to other Derby burglaries.
Between mid-April and mid-May, Derby had 13 burglaries, police said.
Police developed Millet as a suspect after an alert citizen May 22 called police to report a suspicious person in the area of Cherry Street near a home that had previously been broken into.
Millet wasn’t arrested at the time, but police began to build a case against him.
He matched the description people gave in other Derby burglaries, police said.
“After reviewing video surveillance from houses and buildings, he was placed at the scene of a house that was burglarized,” Stanko said.
A laptop, computer equipment and jewelry were taken in Cherry Street and Fifth Street burglaries. The items have not been recovered.
Millet is charged with first- and third-degree burglary, along with third- and fourth-degree larceny.
The alert citizen who first called the police on Millet is affiliated with the Derby neighborhood watch group that formed May 20.
