Derby Man Charged With Distributing Meth

In a court filing, a FBI agent says the substance in the two bags is 100 percent pure meth purchased from a Derby resident.

DERBY — The U.S. Attorney’s Office in New Haven said a 46-year-old Derby man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly selling about 55 grams of methamphetamine.

Andre Messam was charged with possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine, and with the distribution of 50 grams or more of methamphetamine.

According to a prepared statement, the FBI’s Transnational Organized Crime Task Force was investigating Messam and made a controlled purchase” of the drug from him. The buy happened on May 10.

Laboratory analysis of the methamphetamine determined that it was 100 percent pure,” according to the statement.

Messam allegedly fled from cops who tried to pull him over in North Haven on Wednesday morning. They found him later at a rental car agency on the Berlin Turnpike in Newington. He was allegedly carrying $7,200 cash, law enforcement said.

If convicted of the charge in the complaint, Messam faces a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment of 10 years and a maximum term of imprisonment of life,” according to the press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
