Nora R. Dannehy, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that Miguel Torres, also known as “Mickey,” 31, of Smith Street, Derby, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Janet Bond Arterton in New Haven to 63 months of imprisonment, followed by five years of supervised release.
On Jan. 4, 2010, Torres pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute heroin.
According to court documents and statements made in court, from August 2007 to October 2007, Torres and his associates sold wholesale quantities of heroin to an individual working with the FBI Safe Streets Task Force.
On Jan. 19, 2009, law enforcement arrested Torres and recovered approximately 60 grams of high-purity heroin and a loaded firearm while searching his residence in Derby.
This matter was investigated by members of the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, which is composed of federal agents and state and local officers from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Internal Revenue Service – Criminal Investigation Division, the Connecticut State Police Statewide Narcotics Task Force, and the Bridgeport, Stamford, Stratford, Fairfield, Trumbull and Norwalk Police Departments.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Hal Chen.
