Derby Man’s Cause Of Death ‘Pending Further Studies’

The cause of death of a Derby man found near the city’s Riverwalk June 2 remains undetermined pending further studies, an official with the state Medical Examiner’s Office said Friday.

Gordon Maloney, 44, went missing May 19, according to his niece. People discovered his body about 15 yards off the Greenway under a train trestle last Sunday.

Although his death is considered untimely” by city police investigators, they said there was no evidence to suggest intervening criminal conduct” played a role in Maloney’s demise.

An autopsy was performed last week.

Pending further studies” indicates the medical examiner is waiting for results from tests, such as a toxicology report.

Maloney was a lifelong Derby resident who was previously employed at Viking Tool in Shelton.

A funeral service is planned for June 12.
