DERBY — The following message was posted to Mayor Rich Dziekan’s Facebook page Tuesday morning:

I stand with Chief Narowski. The actions of Minneapolis PD were inexcusable and reprehensible.

Locally, the candlelight vigil on the Green organized by citizens was a nice tribute. The city approves of anyone peacefully exercising their First Amendment right.

Keeping in mind that we are still in the middle of a pandemic and we are under the Executive Orders of the Governor, I encourage everyone to practice social distancing when gathering.

Ultimately, the requested use of the Green or any city property for an organized event should be brought to our Board of Aldermen/Alderwomen for consideration. I’m confident that the Board would gladly support something in honor of George Floyd and social justice.
