DERBY — The following press release was sent by Derby Neck Library.
The Board of Directors at the Derby Neck Library has completed their search for a new Head Librarian, and they didn’t have to look far.
Current Youth Services Librarian Krissy Warrenger has been appointed to the Head Librarian position.
“Krissy was the unanimous and popular choice of the Personnel Committee and the full Board of Directors following reviews and interviews with multiple candidates over the last month,” Board President Jack Walsh said in a memo to staff. “Krissy was exceptional in every respect and was clearly the best candidate for the job.”
A Valley native and graduate of Seymour High School, Krissy earned her Master of Library Science online from Texas Woman’s University. She has been working at Derby Neck since first hired as a Library Assistant in 2018.
During the COVID-19 shutdown, Krissy advanced to Youth Services Librarian, providing virtual literacy, gaming, and STEAM programming for ages birth to 18.
“I love connecting people with the resources they need to live their best lives, so I knew I’d end up in library administration someday, and here that day is,” she said. Krissy hopes to advance the library’s role in Derby and the Valley as a community hub. “People generally have two places where they spend their time – home, and work or school. I’d like the Derby Neck Library to be the third place on that list.“
The Derby Neck Library was founded in 1897 with a donation from Wilbur F. Osborne. Krissy is now the 15th Head Librarian to serve.
