Derby Neck Library's Head Librarian Is Leaving For Weston

Ian Parsells will be leaving Derby Neck Library in March.

DERBY – Members of the Derby Neck Library Board of Directors announced on Tuesday that they have begun a search for a new head librarian.

The current head librarian, Ian Parsells, will depart at the beginning of March to manage the Weston Public Library in Fairfield County.

We are sad to lose such an excellent professional as Ian, who has initiated countless improvements and programs at our library, and become an invaluable member of the Valley’s nonprofit community,” said Jack Walsh, the president of the Derby Neck Library Board of Directors. We wish him nothing but the best as he advances on his career path. He will be missed.”

A reception for Parsells is slated for the afternoon of March 1 at the Library on Hawthorne Avenue. 

Walsh said Parsells came to the Derby Neck Library Association eleven years ago from New Jersey. 

A graduate of Ramapo College and Rutgers University, Mr. Parsells was appointed to the Bibliomation Board of Directors in 2021 and has served in a variety of leadership roles in the region. He chaired the Youth Committee of the Valley Council for Health and Human Services for seven years. In recognition of his community work, the Valley Council awarded him their Lewis Savitsky Award for staff excellence in 2017. Certificates of Recognition and Accomplishment followed from Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro and Senators Blumenthal and Murphy. 

While at the Derby Neck Library, Parsells initiated a variety of programs for children, teens and adults while upgrading its collections and technological capacity.
