Derby OEM Director Charles Sampson sent this message about 8 a.m. Saturday.
The City of Derby has seen a significant amount of snow from this storm.
Most areas have seen about three feet of snow.
City workers are doing their best to open roads, but we reiterate that all roadways in the state are currently closed as per the order of the governor.
So please stay off the roadways so that Public Works can do their job and start clearing this massive amount of snow. This will also allow for emergency vehicles to respond safely to incidents.
We have no power outages as of this time, but United Illuminating is staffed and ready to respond. Please contact UI directly for any power issues that may arise — 1 – 800-722‑5584.
It will take a few days to completely recover from this snow event so take your time clearing your driveways and sidewalks.
Other reminders:
- Clear your furnace vents outside of your house to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning
- Do not warm your vehicles up inside of your garage
- Be a good neighbor, check on your elderly neighbors to make sure they are in a safe condition
- Dial 911 for emergency situations
