City officials said milling will begin tomorrow (Thursday, Aug. 5) on Seymour Avenue near Griffin Hospital.
The milling and paving will be ongoing for the next three weeks and will include Elizabeth Street all the way to Route 34.
The work is part of a federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act grant that will cover approximately 6,000 feet of milling and paving from Elizabeth Street at Route 34 continuing through Seymour Avenue up to Griffin Hospital.
The Elizabeth Street portion will be done during the overnight hours to limit traffic headaches.
At least one lane of traffic will be open during the month-long job.
It will be completed by the end of August.
Cocchiola Paving is the contractor for the City of Derby.
“These streets are the gateway into our downtown and I want everyone to take pride in the way our roads look,” Mayor Anthony Staffieri said in a press release. “Elizabeth is critical to the livelihood of our small businesses and also runs through the heart of Derby’s historic district.
“My administration is taking care to ensure that while the work is being done, there are no major interruptions to our citizens and visitors.”
