Derby PD Has A Suspect In Hit And Run, Victim Still In Critical Condition

DERBY — A man was in critical condition Saturday morning after being struck by a vehicle whose operator left the scene Thursday night, police said.

The male victim was not identified by police.

In a prepared statement issued on Facebook, police said he was walking on Division Street near a railroad crossing at about 9:21 p.m. when he was struck.

The vehicle subsequently evaded the accident,” according to a statement.

Police reported Saturday morning that a suspect and a vehicle had been identified. The suspect’s name was not released to the public. 

Police said he is 19 years old. Charges have yet to be filed.

I Police described the seized vehicle as a white Infiniti.

The vehicle has damage consistent with a pedestrian strike and physical evidence located at the scene,” police said.

As of 8:39 a.m. Saturday, police officers were drafting applications for both search and arrest warrants.

Division Street is a busy commercial sector on the border of Ansonia and Derby.

The victim was coming from the area of Pershing Drive when he was struck, police said.
